New Website - Important Update and Membership Status

Last week, some members may have received a system email suggesting that their membership account had been "held for approval".  This email was sent in error, and we apologise for any alarm or concern this caused.  Please be assured that your membership status has not been impacted, and this message was given unintentionally by the website during a data importing process, associated with the continuing website development.

While some good progress has been made with development of the new MSA website, unfortunately, we have encountered significant delays and technical issues. Members of the MSA Executive Committee have been working closely with the external web-developer to try and resolve all issues in the shortest possible timeframe, with a strong priority on functions that most impact you, such as managing your membership information, renewals/payments, and subscribing to MSA communications.  However, testing by the committee and a selection of members has revealed ongoing issues that have prevented us from a full launch. As a result, we have needed to temporarily pause all login and membership functions.  We are now in the process of contracting a new development team to resolve the issues and complete the website.

The Exec Committee recognises that members have been unable to reliably login and interact with the website, including renewing and maintaining your membership, since the new website was introduced in March 2023.  The MSA website is a central and important facility for our members, so this is deeply regrettable. Due to this, all members that had a current/active membership status on the 1st of March 2023 will automatically receive a 12-month extension to their membership.  This extension will apply indiscriminately, regardless of whether you have been successful in renewing your membership this year.

Examples:
If your membership renewal was due in April 2023, and you were unable to renew via the new website, your membership will be automatically extended to April 2024.
If your membership renewal was completed successfully in February 2023 and you currently have a renewal date of February 2024, it will be extended to February 2025.

The date extension may take some time to be accurately reflected on your website profile, and member logins will be paused while we are in the process of transitioning to a new development team.  Therefore, you will currently be unable to accurately check your membership status online, however we hope this extension will alleviate any concerns you may have about your membership renewal this year.

We greatly appreciate your patience on this matter.  If you have any concerns while we are working as quickly as possible to have the website completed, please direct any questions regarding the website to Liam Shanahan, vicepresident@metrology.asn.au.

MSA Conference 2025 - Call for Action

Following the successful event in Wellington (see the link below to the photos and video), there is strong interest to hold our next conference in Sydney or a surrounding area.  We're now calling for NSW members to form a local organising committee to get the planning for MSA2025 underway.  If you are keen to be involved and have a few ideas about hosting an event then get in touch today.  The committee will support with mentoring and guidelines from past event organizers. Get in touch now by emailing secretary@metrology.asn.au

Annual General Meeting - First Notice

The Executive Committee hereby give notice that the MSA 2023 Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 13th November via Zoom.  A link will be notified on the website along with the agenda and proxy form link for those who cannot make this event and wish to supply their proxy for voting purposes.

Education - new fully funded online learning now available

The NZ branch of MSA have been collaborating with Real World Education to develop metrology education. Two new courses are now available via remote learning and ready to be incorporated as learning and development pathways for your lab staff.

There are no fees as long as students are NZ citizens or have residency status. The lab in which a student works must register to become a â??delivery siteâ?? which is a simple process if the lab is accredited to ISO 17025. Students will not be required to restudy work that they can prove they are adept at.

There are two options for students:

- Postgraduate Diploma with Specialisation in Metrology

Applications are now open for the 16th October 2023 intake. Applicants must have a degree in science, mathematics or engineering or, a shorter STEM qualification and 5 years metrology experience.

- Undergraduate Level 5 and Level 6 Diplomas

Coming in early 2024. No pre-requisite degree or qualification required. Level 5 may be started by students who are yet to find employment.

To learn more about the courses and how to become a delivery site, please email admissions@real.ac.nz with these subject lines
Postgraduate: PGDip-Metrology
Undergraduate: Diploma-Metrology
