Before we sign off for the year...

Members confirm Executive Committee for the next 12months

Thank you to those who either attended or provided their proxy vote for the MSA AGM on 13th November.聽聽

The annual report was presented by President Tony Bergen and the financial report from Treasurer Saeedeh Saadati.聽 Liam Shanahan provided an update on the website redevelopment project and additional discussions included: a call for NSW members to form a Conference 2025 local organising committee; the approval of the MSA Financial Policy; and updates on the current education initiatives.

All executive committee members remained committed to another 12 months working on behalf of members, with Tony Bergen voted to remain as President.聽 Your Executive Committee is:

EVENT - Digital Calibration Certificate Conference

The 4th聽International DCC Conference will be held from 27th - 29th February 2024 as an online conference. Registration is completely free of charge:

The major theme of the conference will be the uptake and further development of digital calibration certificates (DCC). Therefore, short abstracts (max. 1 page) are very much welcome on the following topics:

New Zealand Emerging Metrology Award

The NZ MSA Branch are calling for nominations for the 2024 Emerging Metrologist award.聽 This recognises excellence in early career technicians, researchers, or someone working in the measurement industry.聽

Nomination Criteria - Emerging Metrologist Award

Nominations must be for an individual who has been in a metrology related industry for less than five years, who stands out amongst others in respect to technical knowledge, quality focus, client focus.聽 Nominations must be received by28 February 2024 and this award will be presented on World Metrology Day, 20th May 2024. Email the secretary@metrology.asn.au for nomination details.

Taking Metrology to the next generation

The NZ Branch has signed up to support the Science Roadshow in 2024.聽 Ian Kennedy, the CEO of the Science Roadshow, presented at the MSA conference in Wellington earlier this year about the importance of providing exposure to science in a fun and engaging way to increase the likelihood students see STEM as a future career choice.聽 Essentially it is a science expo in a truck travelling from school to school throughout New Zealand, and in 2024 they will be including an interactive measurement activity that involves students having to bung a hole in a rocket ship using various tools to work out what size the hole is and the bung they need.聽

Website/membership update

We are aware that the MSA website is presently not fully functional as unfortunately the developer has not been able to provide the service that was contracted.聽 We are still working on this and hope to have an announcement for a path forward in the first quarter of 2024.聽 Thank you for your ongoing patience in the meantime.

Signing out for 2023

We would like to send our best wishes to our members as we end the year.聽 We trust you are all planning to take a well earned holiday to rest, enjoy the festive season and prepare for 2024. We have a lot on our to-do list in 2024 and will prioritize adding value for members.聽聽
