The MSA NZ branch celebrated World Metrology Day with the Measurement Standards Laboratory of NZ on Friday 24th May. This annual event is a one day conference in its own right with plenty of great speakers, talks, networking and Lab tours. Significant at this years event was the acknowledgement that World Metrology Day is now recognised by UNESCO as an International Day. The measurement treaty was first signed in 1875 so that means in 2025 we will be celebrating 150 years. Expect a number of excellent events throughout Australia and NZ next year celebrating Metrology's annual day.
Also, part of the programme at this event was the announcement of the NZ Emerging Metrologist of the year. MSA thanks International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) in supporting the winner and runner up with their prize package. The MSA celebrates those early in their metrology career knowing how diverse and wide-spread the pathways can be. Our winner this year is Ellie Molloy, a Research Scientist from MSL and the runner up was Rohan Patel from WIKA laboratory in Auckland. Congratulations to you both.

Following a discussion at the MSA2023 conference in Wellington, Real World Education expressed interest in supporting the development of online Metrology micro credential courses. Working alongside several NZ calibration labs, the format and content has now been approved by the New Zealand Qualification Authority and are offered fees free to NZ based laboratory staff. There are two options based on experience for staff already working in calibration lab and need support for their learning and development. Intakes for the 2024 programmes close soon so donâ??t delay.Â

A task group of the MSA committee compiled an extensive brief for the design of our new website and issued an Invitation to Tender, which is now closed. We are currently in the process of reviewing the offers and will be interviewing the companies which offered the best balance of meeting our needs versus cost. We expect that the new website will be ready by end of September this year.
