NZ Emerging Metrologists
At World Metrology Day on 20th May in NZ, two exceptional young metrologists were recognised as the inaugural joint winners of the Emerging Metrologist of the year award. Created to promote Metrology as an exciting career choice for young people, and highlight the possible pathways and open the doors to the expanse of Metrology as a science, the two winners were equally impressive in what they've achieved within a short space of time. You can view the video of Shairae and Annalyse on the website homepage. MSA NZ is now calling for applicants for the Metrologist of the year award that will be announced and presented at MSA2023. Please find more information and the nomination form here.
Science Roadshow Opportunity - raising awareness about measurement
MSA NZ branch has been contacted by the Science Roadshow, asking if there were ways the MSA could support them and in turn have metrology promoted in their programme. The Science Roadshow offers school children, their teachers and accompanying parents and wider public visitors an opportunity to explore various science and technology concepts by ‘touch and feel'. Delivered across NZ for students up to year 10. Ian Kennedy from Science Roadshow is keen for any support MSA can provide and will likely present and demonstrate options MSA2023 that will form part of an education session. But if our NZ members want to get on board now please contact Science Roadshow - https://www.scienceroadshow.nz/content/contact/contactUs.php
Passing of Barry Neville
It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of MSA member Barry Neville. Barry has been a great contributor to the metrology community having spent 43 years as a Senior Technical Officer, Materials Testing and Force Calibration at the University of Queensland in their Civil Engineering Department. Barry was an early member of the Metrology Society of Australasia and was on the organising committee for two of the MSA conferences. Barry was also a NATA Technical Advisor and Technical Assessor since 1989. More recently Barry was a semi-retired consultant at Force Consulting keeping him involved in the industry alongside many other activities during his well earned retirement. Our thoughts are with Barry's family and former colleagues at this time.
