The MSA Conference Committee instigated another Site Visit on Tuesday 21st April to the NZ Police Calibration Labs in Wellington. Following on from previous successful site visits to Fisher & Paykel in Auckland and Tait Communications in Christchurch and alongside the hard work promoting the MSA conference it was fantastic to host a group of 30 to the Police Labs.
A good mix of people from local Calibration labs, MSL and Callaghan Innovation enjoyed the talk and interactive displays provided by Inspector Mark Stables, Bob Gardner and Tim Drumm. It was especially noteworthy to hear of their commitment to IANZ Certification (since December 1999) and of their healthy relationship with MSL spanning 20+ years.
The Police Lab employs a total of 9 staff to maintain the calibration rotation and strict traceability protocols for all the speed detection devices and weighbridges operated by NZ Police throughout the country. The visit highlighted the vital service this Lab provides for public good and demonstrates the linkages between the Lab, accreditation and measurement standards. Also it’s exciting to hear of how the kiwi number 8 wire mentality mixed with technological advancements will mean if you break the rules on our roads you will be caught!
