MSA News November 2025

Dear Members, Supporters and Visitors

We are drawing to a close of a significant milestone year in metrology. Key highlights for the MSA include:

  • Launching the new website at the end of 2024 and commissioning it through the start of 2025. It’s a new, fresh look and we’d be happy to receive your feedback (see the survey below).
  • Celebrating the appointment of our own Dr Annette Koo from MSL as Director Designate of the BIPM – the first woman to take the role in the history of the BIPM.
  • World Metrology Day events were held in May, including celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in Paris.
  • Our highly successful biennial conference, the RapidTech MSA2025 Conference was held in Sydney.
  • We became a member of Science and Technology Australia.

Joining Science and Technology Australia will help us to engage with other scientific societies and associations, to spread the word about metrology and promote our events and the MSA measurement lecture series. It will also give us access to a lobbying platform to influence Australian government policy.

We are looking at ways that we can engage people from outside our traditional areas, including third tier laboratories and others who may be metrologists but not work in a laboratory. This will continue to be a big focus for us in 2026.

I’d like to thank the MSA Committee for their ongoing support and also a big thanks to the MSA2025 conference organising committee.
