Dear Members, Supporters and Visitors
Since the last newsletter we have had some great achievements on the global stage. The MSA has joined IMEKO (https://imeko.org/) as a member representing Australasia, and we have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the NCSLI (https://ncsli.org/). More information about this is further below.
We are also excited to announce that the next MSA biennial conference, MSA2027, will be held in Adelaide in October 2027. Please read on to find out more about this must-attend event in the beautiful surrounds of the Adelaide Zoo!
Our AGM is coming up in November and I hope to see many of you there.

MSA Annual General Meeting
Join us at the MSA AGM being held on Monday 9 November at 3:00pm (Sydney time) online with Zoom. The meeting link will be published on a special members newsletter and posted on LinkedIn on Monday 2 November.
We are seeking support from our members to join our Executive Committee as we head into the new year with many exciting projects underway. If you know someone who wants to grow their skills, expand their network and contribute to the MSA’s strategic workplan, please get in touch with the President today. If you are a member and cannot attend please send us a proxy vote on the email link below.
MSA Joins IMEKO
MSA has been accepted as a member of IMEKO
MSA applied to represent Australasia on the General Council of IMEKO (International Measurement Confederation), a Europe-based global network of scientific and engineering groups that work together to advance measurement technology. President Tony and committee member Rai Pippia attended (online) the 2026 General Council Meeting that was held in Bangkok on 25th August, where our application was accepted.
Amongst other things, membership of IMEKO will enable the MSA to appoint experts to IMEKO’s Technical Committees (TCs). The TCs organise symposia, conferences, workshops and seminars on specific topics and publish proceedings of events, text-books, glossaries, studies, etc.
MSL hosts APMP
The Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) is coming to Wellington, NZ in November. APMP works to promote and support the development of the region’s measurement infrastructure that, amongst other things, facilitates international trade, ensures equity in the marketplace, and enhances the quality of life and the environment for its citizens.
Every year, APMP holds its General Assembly in a member nation, and in 2026, that honour belongs to New Zealand.
Over the week, experts from NMIs across the globe will gather for technical committee meetings, focus group meetings, a symposium, and the General Assembly itself. As the premier forum advancing metrological science, capability and collaboration among NMIs in the Asia-Pacific region, the programme will showcase leading-edge developments in measurement science and technology, emerging applications, strategic future directions, and foundational research shaping the discipline.
MSA signs MOU with NCSLI
The Metrology Society of Australasia (MSA) and NCSL International (NCSLI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalising a collaborative relationship and strengthening their shared commitment to advancing metrology, measurement science and quality practices worldwide.
Signed on 15 July 2026, the agreement establishes a five-year framework for cooperation focused on professional development, education, networking and the exchange of technical knowledge for the benefit of the global metrology community.

MSA features in IEEE student resources
A major MSA initiative completed in 2022 was the creation of the Measurement Lecture Series. The lectures and accompanying notes were developed as a resource for the teaching of metrology in applied sciences at a tertiary level. The lectures emhasise the metrology principles and philosophy applicable to any measurement. These are now incorporated in metrology related coursework at a number of universities across NZ and Australia. Through these affiliations, we are proud to see some of this content now being used by the IEEE in their student education resources and attributed to the MSA.
