MOU with NCSLI
At our last AGM, the MSA Committee recommended that the MSA should engage in a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Conference of Standards Laboratories International (NCSLI), and the AGM gave the MSA Committee the mandate to pursue this. We are pleased to announce the MOU with the NCSLI has now been approved by both organisations. This is a big step towards connecting with other metrology member associations that we can collaborate with and share events for the benefit of our members. More information will be shown on our website soon.
MSA NZ Emerging Metrologist Award
Nominations for the MSA NZ Branch Emerging Metrologist Award 2026 will be closing on 17 April 2026. We wish to reward those ‘young or new to metrology’ people in your organisation who are demonstrating excellent qualities and technical competence. We are looking for a New Zealand–based member employed within a metrology-related organisation.

World Metrology Day 2026
Every year on 20 May the metrology community celebrates the signing of the metre convention in 1875 that set about the global agreement of measurement, what we know as the SI – International System of Units.
Once again, MSA are co-hosting an event with the Measurement Standards Laboratory of New Zealand (MSL) to be held at their laboratories in Lower Hutt, New Zealand on Friday 22 May. The theme this year is Metrology: Building Trust in Policy Making. You can learn more about this and register by clicking the link below.
Professional Metrologist Programme
After many years of designing a relevant and valued way to recognise excellence within our metrology community we are proud to launch the MSA’s Professional Metrologist Programme (PMP). There are three levels of recognition with the following postnominals:
Practicing Metrologist (T-Metr)
Professional Metrologist (P-Metr)
Principal Metrologist (C-Metr)
These three levels acknowledge different levels of expertise, qualifications, contributions and experience. The programme is still in its establishment stage, and we do have plans for further expansion including a directory of those qualified for PMP recognition (opt-out possible). The PMP committee (Khaled Chahine, Neil Sturrock, Rai Pippia, Jennie Dingle, Lenice Evergreen and Tony Bergen) would like to acknowledge the work by Daniel Burke and Tom Elliott on developing this programme in the past.
2026 NMI Measurement Awards
The National Measurement Institute is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 NMI Measurement Awards! These awards recognise measurement excellence at all levels, from early career professionals through to established researchers.
This year’s awards include:
